The Unfriend
The Mill at Sonning has long enjoyed a close relationship
with Wargrave Theatre, a respected local drama group
performing for over fifty years. They stage around five
shows a year, including open-air Shakespeare, award-
winning pantomimes, and a thriving youth section.
This year the Mill is delighted to host one of the Wargrave
Theatre productions for 5 performances. The UNFRIEND by
Steven Moffat, a very successful comedy in the WEST END
starring Lee Mack.
While Peter and Debbie are enjoying a cruise to
celebrate twenty years of marriage, they befriend fellow
passenger Elsa Jean Krakowski, an eccentric widow
from Denver. There’s something slightly unsettling in her
friendliness and eagerness to stay in touch, but they
agree – because no one ever really does, do they?
Back home a few months later, Elsa suddenly invites
herself to stay. Debbie decides to Google her —
too late, they learn the truth about Elsa Jean Krakowski.
What danger have they allowed into their home? How do
they protect all they love? Sometimes, the truth is just
too impolite. The Unfriend takes a hilarious, satirical look
at middle-class England’s instinct to always appear nice.
