A Night at the Musicals

A Night at the Musicals

The Mill has pledged to do a gala performance concert every St George’s Day for The George Hatfield Theatrical Arts Foundation. Last year we were able to help eight Arts students with a bursary to fund their training. This year four wonderful actors, who are all currently performing in the West End, have offered their services to mount a special Night at The Musicals. The cast includes Adam Linstead (Phantom of The Opera) and Soophia Foroughi (Prince Of Egypt) with more to be announced later on. Their voices are truly sublime and they are accompanied by a three piece band as they work their way through a repertoire of much loved songs from the Musicals we all know and love.

Posting Letters to the Moon

Posting Letters to the Moon

POSTING LETTERS TO THE MOON

A romantic, funny and very touching portrait of life during the second World War featuring readings of letters between Oscar-nominated actress Celia Johnson (Brief Encounter) and her explorer and writer husband Peter Fleming (brother of James Bond creator Ian Fleming) posted to India and the Far East during the war working for Military Intelligence.

Not only are the letters highly engaging, but they also provide a fascinating historical insight into that time of true austerity and fearfulness.

‘... simply spellbinding performance...revealing an abundance of love and affection between ordinary people caught in extraordinary times... a theatrical gem’.  British Theatre Guide.

The letters are read by their daughter Lucy Fleming (Love Sarah, Miranda in The Archers) and her husband Simon Williams (Upstairs Downstairs Justin in The Archers, EastEnders,) and give an insight into a young mother’s life coping during the war and tell of Celia Johnson’s experience of filming with Noel Coward, David Lean and her thoughts while making the classic film Brief Encounter in 1945.

VOICE OF THE HEART – KAREN CARPENTER

It is now just over 30 years since the legendary Karen Carpenter passed away, she left behind an amazing catalogue of hit songs and golden memories and is still played daily on radio stations throughout the UK. This stunning show celebrates the music of The Carpenters, and the evening is guaranteed to lead everyone through a magical memory.

YESTERDAY ONCE MORE, GOODBYE TO LOVE, CLOSE TO YOU, ONLY YESTERDAY all the hits that every Carpenters fan adores. Plus great medleys put together from their many album tracks, songs that link together from The Beatles –MR POSTMAN, TICKET TO RIDE & HELP, a superb Bacharach and David medley featuring renditions of DO YOU KNOW THE WAY TO SAN JOSE, ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE TO REMIND ME, to name but two of these timeless classics. A Carpenters country medley with TOP OF THE WORLD, SWEET SWEET SMILE, & JAMBALAYA is in great contrast to the sad and perhaps most popular songs on her last and most poignant album Voice Of The Heart.

With superb vocals from local lady CAROLE GORDON and outstanding talent from the brilliant BLUE JEANS BAND & SINGERS it will be a “sparkling” night to remember.
